Carolyn Wilson Schisler, author of The Scent of Lilacs passed away March 29, 2009.  We were very happy to host her last book signing at The Allen House in 2008.  She had many old friends here to get a copy of her latest book and to reminisce about the “old days” in Monticello.  Carolyn graduated high school in Monticello in 1955.  She lived in the Allen House in 1959.  Her apartment was on the first floor, north end.  The Scent of Lilacs was published in 1966 and the house in the novel was based on The Allen House, to a certain extent.

The Allen House says goodbye...

The Scent of Lilacs is now in re-print and can be found on Ebay and Amazon.
